Ruben Hernandez
Executive Director

Ruben has been living in Walla Walla since the age of 5. As a child, he attended College Place School District and Walla Walla School District. He obtained his associate’s degree at Walla Walla Community College and his bachelor’s degree from Eastern Washington University.

Ruben joined the team in July 2023 with a goal of implementing new and exciting programs for kids in our community. He is excited to create positive memories for children and to be a good role model for youth.

He has experience in after school programing, outreach, recruitment, planning events, and fundraising. He is passionate about making a difference in the community of Walla Walla.

He currently serves on the Trilogy Recovery Community Board, the Edison PTA as Board President, the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Board for City of College Place, and as basketball coach at YMCA.

Outside of Camp Fire, Ruben enjoys movie nights with his wife Ruthell and two sons, Romeo and Royce. He also loves traveling, sports, music, and spending quality time with family and friends.

Natalie Tucker
Program/Communications Director

Natalie is a Walla Walla native with a deep-rooted love for the community. She has experience in technical writing, freelance tutoring, team management, and has even worked as a substitute teacher/para in the Walla Walla School District. Since joining the team in 2021, she is thrilled to work at an organization that provides Walla Walla kiddos with exciting new opportunities and a safe, fun place to find their spark after school lets out for the day. As Program Director, she handles licensing, policy writing, staff management, day-to-day programs operations, and running Camp Fire Walla Walla’s social media and web presence.

Natalie graduated from University of Idaho in 2019 with a Bachelors Degree in Technical Writing. Outside of Camp Fire, she loves reading, playing with her orange cat, and enjoying the fun things to do in Walla Walla with her friends and family.

Carly Kemp
Office Manager/Registrar

Carly joined Camp Fire in 2017 as the program assistant. Throughout the years, her role here has shifted, and she has found her niche as the Office Manager and Registrar for our After School and Summer Camp programs. She has many duties at Camp Fire; registration, developing monthly USDA approved snack menus, purchasing of snacks and operational supplies, and site paperwork just to name a few.

Carly was born and raised in Walla Walla and enjoys cooking, baking, playing with her dog Wilson, and spending quality time with friends and family. She graduated from Walla Walla Community College in 2017 and has since found her spark here at Camp Fire. Her favorite thing about her role here is the relationships she gets to make with the Camp Fire staff and families.

Our six after-school camp sites and one summer camp site are staffed by a dedicated, caring team of site directors and lead teachers, with two staff members per site, or a minimum of one staff member for every 15 kids.
